Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What do I have to do to apply for MedOne insurance?

A: It's as easy as 1-2-3! First, fill out and submit the online application (the vast majority of applications are approved). Next, submit the required premium payment. Then, sign and return the Proposal form that we'll send out to you. When we receive that form back from you, your Certificate of Insurance will be mailed to you. What could be easier? You can also download an application and fax it to us at 06-6263-8860.

Q. What medical procedures and expenses will MedOne pay for?

A: Having very few exclusions, your MedOne policy will cover 100% (that means no deductible and no co-payments) of almost all of the expenses you're likely to incur, including in- and outpatient care, surgery, doctor bills, prescriptions, emergency care, secondary expenses and much, much more. With MedOne you truly have a quality, comprehensive medical insurance plan.

Q. How quickly can I get insurance coverage to go into effect?

A: In most cases in less than a week.

Q. I'll only be in Japan for a few months, so I don't need coverage for a whole year. Can I get a shorter term?

A: Absolutely! Three- and six-month plans are also available. And they're not stripped-down versions of the yearly plan; you'll still receive MedOne's full comprehensive coverage -- just for a shorter term. (As a matter of fact, all MedOne plans -- Bronze, Silver and Gold -- have identical coverages; only their upper limits differ.) We know that people have different circumstances, and you may not need a full year's coverage, or you simply may not be able to afford a year term right now. We make it possible for you to buy just the amount of insurance that's right for you. Remember, we're expatriates too, and we understand the needs and challenges of expatriates here in Japan.

Q. Can I pay for the insurance with my credit card?

A: Surely. As a matter of fact, you can make your premium payment by PayPal or credit card online, by bank transfer or at any convenience store in Japan. When you apply online, you'll be able to choose which payment method you prefer. Using PayPal or your credit card are the quickest ways to pay, but the other two methods are just as effective and there for your convenience.

Q. Am I limited in where I can use this insurance?

A: Not at all; you can use your MedOne coverage at any doctor's office, clinic or hospital in Japan. The only exception is the John Hopkins Clinic in Tokyo.

Q. Who's the underwriter, and what is its financial condition?

A: The plan is underwritten by NIA, a licensed insurer with 60 years of experience in Japan. NIA has a Best's Rating of A- (Excellent). This rating is assigned to companies that have, in A.M. Best's opinion, an excellent ability to meet their ongoing obligations to policyholders. Their Outlook is Stable and their Financial Size Category (FSC) is XV ($2 Billion or greater), the highest FSC issued by Best. AM Best is the largest and longest-established company devoted to issuing in-depth reports and financial-strength ratings about insurance organizations.

Q. Does MedOne cover loss of life?

A: Yes, MedOne will pay the full benefit of the Plan chosen (Bronze, Silver or Gold) in the event of an Insured's death due to an accident or covered illness. It will also pay a certain percentage of the Plan's full benefit for permanent disability.

Q. What's the 'ClientZone?'

A: The ClientZone gives you access to your own administration panel where you'll be able to manage your MedOne policy. Once your insurance coverage starts, simply log in to your personal ClientZone to update your profile, download claim forms and renew your coverage.

Q. How do I file a claim for medical expenses?

A: Simply fill out a claim form and mail it to us along with your original receipts for eligible medical expenses. Most claims are usually handled within two to three weeks.
